A Christmas Story by Jean Shepherd. We don’t have a print copy of this title, but I’m sneaking it in here. If you’d really like to read it we can request it through our Interlibrary Loan service. We do have it on cd book as well as on DVD and VHS. This movie has been a Christmas favourite for over 25 years. Set in the 1940s it’s Christmas in a simpler time. Remember when you were a child? Was there something you just had to have for Christmas? Ralphie wants one thing for Christmas, official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle, much to the chagrin of his Mother. She tells him “No, you’ll shoot your eye out”. Poor Ralphie, he gets the same response from his teacher and even from Santa Claus himself. The movie is filled with memorable moments, like when his friend Flick licks a flagpole, after a double dog dare. Or when his little brother Randy is so bundled up in his snowsuit that he tells his mom “I can’t put my arms down!”, to which she responds “Well… put your arms down when you get to school.” If you’ve never seen this movie, treat yourself to something fun.
