Fall Teen Programs and Events

Fall Teen Programs and Events banner pictureHello my fellow bookworms! Fall is on its way which means a whole new season of teen events are now in the works! As I said last month, our events have found a new home on Discord, where you can log-in, visit with friends, and access fun events like JackBox TV for game night! The Discord server is for teens only, so to become a member you will have to get an invite which you can find here: www.tbpl.ca/teens. As per usual, send us your ideas and things you’d like to do online at teens@tbpl.ca. Please keep in mind the start times for these programs haven’t been nailed down yet but they’ll be posted online soon. Let’s get started!

Book Bag Subscriptions: I’m so excited to announce that starting September 4, 2020 you can sign up for the TBPL Book Bag Subscriptions! Bags include two books personally picked based on your preferences, as well as treats, cool items like slime, and fun activities! Head to the teen webpage to sign up. There’s only space for 20 people so sign up ASAP!

Youth Advisory Council: The Council will be starting again in October with myself and Laura as your gracious hosts. YAC usually meets the third Wednesday of the month from Oct – May. Members help us decide what programs to run, provide youth insight into library changes, and much more! This is a wonderful addition to any resume! We also work on team building and event planning skills! Members will receive volunteer hours for coming to meetings. Members can also volunteer to be moderators on Discord.

Take a Breath (And Colour): As for events, every Thursday this fall you can join people your age on Discord for a virtual hang out where we’ll colour, destress, and talk! Colouring sheets will be available for pickup at your favourite branch. Once a month we’ll do a group craft that you can snag in advance.

We’ve got access to Quiplash, Carcassonne, King Domino and more! Meet up with friends weekly to play games while voice/video chatting via Discord starting September 22.

Beanstack: Summer Reading Club is over but the 50 Books to Read Before Graduating Challenge will be starting in October. Earn badges for each book you’ve read on the list and you’ll be entered in the grand prize draw!

Volunteering: For those looking to volunteer we have virtual options! For Teens Review, you’ll submit a short review of a library item which will be posted to the library’s blog (tbplofftheshelf.com) For every review you write, you’ll get an hour of community service time. You can earn up to 8 hours per school year.

Each week we pick a new genre of books to chat about and always have a ton of fun talking about our favourite books. This month we have some special guests filling in so keep an eye out for them soon! Join us online Fridays @ 2 PM on Facebook or on YouTube @TBPL.
