Staff Review – How to Be a Conscious Eater by Sophie Egan

In searching for a book from our Climate Change collection, I wanted to find something that would give me, the average person, advice on what they can do to help the environment (and myself along the way). Enter Sophie Egan’s “How to Be a Conscious Eater: Making Food Choices That are Good for You, Others, and the Planet”. Egan breaks things down into simple terms and categories so that readers can get clear-cut advice on how they can improve their health and the health of the planet at the same time. Discussing “stuff” that comes from the ground, animals, factories and restaurant kitchens (as her main sections of the book), Egan talks about everything from non-dairy milk to single-use plastics, from coconut oil to tips on producing less food waste. There are helpful tips for everyone in this little book, no matter what you are trying to focus on. The infographics are eye catching and information, the advice is straightforward, and the benefits to ourselves and the planet are endless!
