Imagine not being able to leave your house due to a medical condition. Well, we have been experiencing the stay-at-home part lately, but Madeline has done it for 17 years. 18-year-old Madeline has an extremely rare condition called Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) which basically makes her allergic to the world. She spends most of her time locked in her boring white-walled and white-furniture house, reading books and playing games with her Nurse, Carla. She never interacts with people from the outside world— but that changes when a moving truck pulls up to the house next door and Olly enters Madeline’s life.
They start interacting in any way possible without Madeline stepping foot out of her house, and they start to fall in love. Writing on windows, texting… you name it, they tried it. The rest of the story is very entertaining with lots of twists and turns and unexpected moments.
I personally really enjoyed this book and it’s my favourite one that I’ve read. Throughout the chapters, there are graphics of emails, websites, and texts that help you better understand the story and enjoy it more. Each chapter is very unique and doesn’t follow the typical format that you would normally see in a standard book, which is what I think made it very interesting and page-turning. It is a relatively quick read due to its shorter chapters, so if you like shorter stories then this is the book for you!
I think that this is a great book to read in the current times. I found that the entire plot of this story can be seen in an entirely different light due to what the world looks like today, so I think that it’s a great quarantine read!

I really enjoyed this book and it’s format too! 🙂 I didn’t absolutely love the ending but overall I thought it was a really good read (and I don’t generally like romances.) I have yet to read any of the author’s other books, though.
