Summer Programming at TBPL

TD Summer Reading Club 2019 logoSummers in Thunder Bay are short, and the weather can be unpredictable. The Library is here to save the day! We offer a wide variety of family-friendly programming at all four of our branches.

Drop in to Brodie rain or shine for Movie Mondays at 2:30pm beginning Jul. 8, featuring movies like How to Eat Fried Worms and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. Popcorn provided, just bring your own drinks and get comfy in our mini theater.

Erin of By the Bay Music Therapy will be at Brodie Tuesdays at 10:30am offering an Inclusive Story Time, a drop in program geared for children ages 4-6. If you have a music lover who struggles with traditional story times, this is a wonderful opportunity as Erin is able to adapt the day to meet the needs of the children present! Thursdays will have Little Music Makers, designed for babies ages 0-2, and include movement, singing, and instrument exploration for the little ones and their caregivers.

Make sure to check our calendar for more Brodie offerings, such as the Royal Tea Party (NOT just for princesses!), and Outer Space Day (giant spaceship is in the works).

Mary J.L. Black has an exciting program offered Jun. 20, Jul. 18, and Aug. 15 at 6pm. All ages are welcome at Sign With Us, a unique opportunity to practice American Sign Language, learn about Deaf Culture, and more. Truly inclusive, Sign With Us welcomes Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Hearing community members, whether experienced signers or brand new to ASL.

In addition to its many other offerings, Mary J.L. Black will be holding a New to School program on Aug. 22 at 2:30pm. This all-age, drop-in program is the perfect way to prepare for the school year.

Looking for something fun to do on the North side? Check out Waverley’s programs. You won’t want to miss Greek Engineering on Jul. 24. This STEM program has limited spaces, and registration opens Jul. 10. If your 7-10 year old thinks they’re as smart as Archimedes, this is a chance to prove it!

Children grades 3-6 will have a chance to assemble an entirely self-sustaining aquatic ecosystem in a sealed jar! Tabletop Biospheres will be at Waverley Aug. 12, spaces limited so be sure to register.

If your child loves fire trucks, be sure to drop by County Park Jul. 8 at 2:30pm to tour a pumper truck and meet the fire fighters! All ages welcome.

Your art lover may want to visit County Park for a chance to paint the windows! Children ages 4+ are invited to register for a spot on either Jul. 15 or Aug. 19. Explore your creativity and get messy! Registration opens Jul. 1 or Aug. 5 respectively.

Our teen programming includes Board Game Night, offered Wednesdays at either Brodie or Waverley. Visit www.tbpl.ca/teens for dates, games offered, and more information.

New to TBPL this year is Stories in the Park. Jul. 10 at Franklin St. Splash Pad, Jul. 24 at Vickers Park, and Aug. 7 at Friendship Gardens, Library staff will be at the park with books and the button maker in hand to bring the stories to you! All sessions held at 2:30pm with Brodie as the back-up location in case of rain. Check our Facebook page for updates.

Summer would not be complete without the TD Summer Reading Club. Register your child (0-12) in person, online at www.tbpl.ca/onlinecalendar or by phone. All branches will hold special programming June 14 to kick off registration, so be sure to check the calendar. The Summer Reading Club is a fantastic opportunity to encourage reading over the summer.

Pick up a copy of Connect at any branch, or visit our website for all program information.
