NoveList is a helpful readers’ advisory tool which is easy and fun to use, and can help you discover new authors. You can start by typing in the title of a book you have loved, and then quickly get a list of read-alikes. You can do the same by author, or even describe a plot. NoveList uses “appeal factors” as well, so if you like to read about a particular time period, country, or enjoy a particular writing style, NoveList can help.
Transparent Language is an interactive, fun online learning course which includes over a hundred languages, including English as a second language, and several Indigenous languages This is great for travellers, business people, and those interested in learning the language of their heritage. Go to www.tbpl.ca/learnalanguage to get started. You can make an account within Transparent Language to track your progress.
If you want to expand your musical horizons, Naxos Music Library is for you. Install the Naxos app on your smart phone or tablet to listen on the go, or access it through My Giant Search on a computer. Go to www.tbpl.ca/virtualcollection, then log in to My Giant Search and choose Naxos Music Library. Naxos includes a huge selection of classic, jazz and world music which you can stream, as well as liner notes, educational videos and more.
Do you need to do some work around the house? Home Improvement Reference Centre can help. Also found in My Giant Search in the Research section of our Web site, it covers maintenance, remodeling, electrical work, plumbing, wood projects, outdoor improvements and decorating. Diagrams, videos and instructions are provided to help you get the job done.
Also found online through your Library’s website are eBooks and eMagazines, which you can enjoy from home. OverDrive is our eBook platform, and includes eAudiobooks. If you’re planning on increasing your physical activity, listening to audiobooks while exercising makes the time fly by! Go to www.tbpl.ca/ebooks to get started. You can install the OverDrive app on most mobile devices for reading on the go, and download books anywhere you have an internet connection.
