
I have to confess I’ve been naughty, we’ve had this blog up for months and I’ve yet to post. Since day one I’ve known which book I most want to promote and still haven’t done it. Maisie Dobbs is the first book in a series by Jacqueline Winspear, which has become one of my go to books when someone is looking for something new.
The titular character is a young woman in England between the wars. She was a nurse in World War One and in the first novel you get a big of her back story. The daughter of a (now) single father she goes in to service for the Comptons where she is caught reading in their library. This leads to puts her on a path to education, which in turn leads to her becoming a psychologist and investigator. Each book centres around an inquiry that ultimately is somehow linked to the Great War. I’ve read or listened to them all, there isn’t one that I wouldn’t heartily recommend 🙂
